We collect information you provide directly when creating an account, including your name, email address, and subscription preferences. We also automatically collect usage data such as pages visited, signals viewed, virtual portfolio activity, and interaction patterns with the platform. Device information including browser type, operating system, and IP address is collected to ensure platform security and optimize performance.
Your information is used to provide and improve our services, personalize your signal feed, calculate paper or challenge rankings where those features are available, and communicate important platform updates. We analyze aggregate usage patterns to improve signal accuracy and develop new features. We may use your email address to send service-related notifications, performance reports, and, with your consent, marketing communications about new features or promotions.
Your data is processed on managed cloud infrastructure. Markitel uses TLS for data in transit, server-side AES-256-GCM encryption for supported stored provider credentials, access controls, and monitoring to reduce security risk. No method of electronic transmission or storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
We integrate with third-party services for analytics, payment processing, email delivery, hosting, security monitoring, market data, AI/search features, and broker-connect workflows. These providers have access only to the information necessary to perform their functions and are contractually obligated to protect your data. We do not sell your personal information to third parties. A current list of our sub-processors and service providers is published at /legal/subprocessors and is also available on request.
We use cookies and similar technologies to maintain session state, remember your preferences, and analyze platform usage. Essential cookies are required for the platform to function correctly. Depending on your jurisdiction, you may have the right to access, correct, delete, or export your personal data. European users have rights under the GDPR including the right to object to processing and the right to data portability. California residents have rights under the CCPA including the right to know what data is collected and the right to opt out of data sales. We retain your account information for as long as your account is active. We do not currently run a dormant-account purge, so nothing is erased on an inactivity timer. Account deletion is handled on request — write to privacy@markitel.com — and removes your account record together with the account data that hangs off it, including virtual portfolio history and signal interaction data. Files you have uploaded, such as profile pictures, post images, and journal images, are not covered by that automated process; we erase them separately on request. A minimal account-activity audit log is kept on a 180-day rolling basis. Payment records are retained for 7 years to comply with tax and financial reporting obligations, and after deletion we may retain anonymized usage data and any records the law requires us to keep.
